Research profile

GHK-Cu research profile

GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (GHK). GHK was first isolated from human plasma albumin in 1973 and has a high affinity for copper(II) ions, forming the GHK-Cu complex. It is one of the most widely cited copper peptides in cell-culture and wound-model literature.

Published research

  • Isolation and sequence: Pickart and Thaler reported the factor in human plasma in 1973 (Nature); Schlesinger, Pickart and Thaler identified it as Gly-His-Lys in 1977.
  • Copper binding: the Cu(II)–GHK complex has been characterized by X-ray crystallography and in solution (Hureau et al., 2011).
  • Extracellular matrix in vitro: GHK-Cu has been studied for its effect on collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis by cultured fibroblasts (Maquart et al., 1988; Wegrowski et al., 1992).
  • Animal wound models: rabbit and rat wound studies, including an ischemic-flap model (Canapp et al., 2003), are among the most cited in vivo papers.
  • Reviews: Pickart & Margolina (2018) summarize gene-expression and tissue-model data.

Frequently asked questions

What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide Gly-His-Lys. It is supplied here as a lyophilized research material for laboratory use only.

Why is GHK-Cu blue?

The color comes from the bound copper(II) ion. A blue to violet powder is expected for the copper complex.

How do I check the purity and identity of my lot?

Scan the QR code on the vial. It opens the certificate of analysis for that exact lot, with the HPLC purity and the mass spectrometry identity result.

How should GHK-Cu be stored?

Keep the vial sealed, away from light and moisture, and follow the storage conditions on the label. Our guide on lyophilized peptides covers general laboratory storage.

For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Literature references are provided for scientific context and do not describe this product's suitability for any use.
